From the earliest days of my childhood at Gilling Castle prep school, photography has been more than just a hobby; it’s been a lifelong passion ignited by the captivating reportage images displayed by my Form Master, Father Gerald. Those moments left an indelible mark, sparking a curiosity and eagerness to explore the world through the lens of a camera.
My journey into photography began with humble beginnings, experimenting with my Mum’s Kodak Instamatic and later receiving a Kodak camera as a Christmas gift. Each click of the shutter revealed a newfound appreciation for the art of capturing moments and telling stories through imagery.
In 1987, I acquired my first “proper” camera, a Praktica MTL3, which became a faithful companion on countless adventures. It was more than just a tool; it was a teacher, guiding me through the intricacies of light, composition, and emotion. Through its lens, I learned to document the authenticity and ambiance of the streets, locations, and individuals I encountered.
As the digital era dawned, I embraced new technologies while still cherishing the timeless allure of film photography. From compact cameras to advanced digital setups like the Canon 6D Mark ii and Fujifilm X100F, each camera became a conduit for preserving memories and connecting with the world around me.
Today, my photography journey continues to evolve, driven by a passion for authenticity and storytelling. Each click of the shutter is an opportunity to capture fleeting moments and preserve memories, to share with others and evoke emotions that transcend time and space.
Photography is not just a hobby for me; it’s a way of life—a journey of discovery, connection, and expression. Through my lens, I strive to capture the beauty, elegance, and authenticity of the world around me, inviting others to join me on this wonderful adventure.
